I am an attorney who has seen that full litigation in the family law context can often increase conflict and keep unhealthy dynamics going for years. I began to look for a better solution and discovered collaborative law. I am also a trained family financial mediator and a mediator certified for disputes in N.C. Superior Court and for Estate Matters. Family law is unique in that as long as there are minor children, the legal case may never be truly finished. In the litigation context, ex-spouses and parents are necessarily seeking to prove their case rather than finding workable solutions that enable both parties to decrease the conflict and move forward in a healthier way. For many divorcing spouses or separating parents, collaborative law offers a better way, where each spouse receives the benefit of sound legal advice, disclosure of relevant information, and the benefit of collaboratively trained professionals such as neutral financial professionals or child specialists. While collaborative law may not be right for all divorcing couples, I believe that many people can benefit from collaborative solutions. I would rather invest my time assisting my clients in moving forward and finding their own solutions, rather than assist them in litigating in court to have a judge decide what solution is best.
I am a North Carolina native who moved around with my husband’s military career until we came back to North Carolina after his retirement. I attended Regent University School of Law where I received my J.D. I also have a bachelor’s degree in political science from the College of Charleston. I have been a licensed attorney in North Carolina since 2019.
